Tom brings than 35 years of experience in the healthcare design and construction industry. He leads Kaufman Hall's Lean Facility Design group, applying Lean methodologies to healthcare design and construction projects to develop safer and more efficient facilities. His designs have been recognized nationally and internationally for their contribution to improved medical outcomes, reduction in preventable medical error, operational efficiencies and lower construction costs.

Before joining parent company Vizient, Tom was a senior healthcare design principal at HDR and Gresham Smith, both top-ranked international healthcare architectural design firms. Tom led the design team for Denver Health’s AHRQ-funded, continuous quality improvement initiative, “Getting it Right: Perfecting the Patient Experience” by creating a safe, efficient, lean facility, which transformed Denver Health’s delivery of care. Additionally, he was the architect of St Joseph’s Hospital of West Bend, Wisconsin, the first-of-its-kind replacement hospital specifically designed to reduce preventable medical errors. The design has been featured in publications nationwide, including The Wall Street Journal and the Joint Commission Resources book “Safe by Design: Designing Safety in Health Care Facilities, Processes, and Culture,” contributing author.

Tom received a bachelor of science degree in architecture from Lawrence Institute of Technology in Southfield, Michigan. He's licensed as an Architect in multiple states and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
