Rick has over 30 years of healthcare and performance improvement experience. In his current role with Kaufman Hall, he leads consulting engagements in the improvement of value capture through infection reduction, quality metric improvement, surgical patient process optimization, LOS reduction and surgical patient flow enhancement.
His prior experience includes serving on the Heritage Valley Health System senior team as VP of Quality and Operations. In his quality role, he led the successful integration of Lean and analytics in the two-hospital health system and supported the completion of over 300 projects. As a result of these improvement efforts, the health system received multiple clinical and non-clinical-related awards. Rick’s expertise in healthcare analytics has expanded his work in several health systems that want to integrate a higher level of data analysis into their Lean or other process improvement methodology.
Rick has served as an examiner on the U.S. and PA State Malcolm Baldrige Board of Examiners. He received 14 patents with PPG Industries and earned a degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh and continued studies in organic chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. He holds a Master Black Belt and Integration Leader status in Six Sigma and is CPHQ certified.
