Larry Volkmar is a Managing Director with Kaufman Halls Revenue Operations Improvement practice. He has over 30 years of experience as a healthcare executive with expertise in operations, strategic planning and physician relations in academic teaching and community medical centers. He specializes in optimizing the labor and non-labor cost structure as well as enhancing clinical productivity.

Larry has led service line reconfiguration projects and improving the performance of a system’s physician practice. Larry also led the evaluation of strategic alternatives with a health system’s special care nursery. While serving as the CEO at a 1,000-bed hospital, Larry implemented a new computerized physician order entry system, negotiated emergency department coverage agreements with physician groups and implemented a new management accountability structure. Larry led an operationally focused hospital management team, strengthened employee culture, and built physician partnerships. Larry has also served as the president of a rehabilitation hospital and a CNO and VP of Operations at a large academic teaching hospital. He started in healthcare as a staff nurse, and he still maintains his nursing license today.

Larry holds an M.B.A. from St. Ambrose University and a B.S.N. from St. Louis University. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a frequent speaker, most recently presenting to the Healthcare Roundtable and Arizona Nurse’s Association on “The Future of Healthcare.”
