James Tompkins

James Tompkins is a Senior Vice President in Kaufman Hall's Mergers and Acquisitions practice. In this role, James works with the executive teams and boards of mission-based clients nationally, leading the evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and execution of a broad range of strategic transactions and partnerships.

James has nearly 15 years of strategic advisory and corporate development experience, a majority of which have been spent with Kaufman Hall’s PM&A practice. He’s also served as a member of UnityPoint Health’s Growth team, where he identified, analyzed, and executed a wide array of growth initiatives across the system. Mr. Tompkins also was an Associate in U.S. Bancorp’s Public Finance practice, where he worked on structuring and executing taxable and tax-exempt bond financings, private placements, and swap transactions for tax-exempt issuers. Earlier in his career, he held Associate and Analyst positions within the Tax-Exempt Lending Group of BMO Capital Markets, completing credit analyses, and structuring and executing lending solutions for a variety of non-profit borrowers.

Mr. Tompkins received a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Iowa.
