Kaufman Hall Advises St. Josephs Syracuse on Joining Trinity Health System
Syracuse, NY-based St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center will join Trinity Health under the terms of a definitive agreement, the two systems announced on April 28th. As a long-standing strategic and financial advisor to St. Joseph's, Kaufman Hall assisted the organization in the evaluation of its strategic direction and partnership opportunities, providing advisory services regarding the considerations of joining a larger health system and perspective on the current state of Catholic healthcare in the U.S.
Both parties had been affiliated under a successful relationship that allowed for St. Joseph’s to access certain system-wide programs offered by Trinity. Given the organizations' shared commitments to Catholic values and high-quality, high-value health care, there was a strong mutual interest in furthering the bond between the two organizations.
“St. Joseph’s already has outstanding programs and services, that will now become part of a leading national system,” Kathryn Ruscitto, president and CEO of St. Joseph's said. “This will enhance St. Joseph’s ability to compete in an increasingly dynamic health-care environment. It will help strengthen the 150-year mission of Catholic health care in the community, and benefit patients and employees by providing the clinical, operational, strategic and financial resources necessary to continue providing a 'Higher Level of Care' throughout the region.”
As part of Trinity Health’s national health care organization, St. Joseph’s will have access to system-wide programs that create operating efficiencies and enhance clinical excellence, and will additionally benefit from access to Trinity Health's financial resources. St. Joseph's will continue to manage and operate its facilities, programs, and local patient care.
The transaction, once approved by applicable state and federal agencies, will provide Trinity Health with another major health care operation in New York state (Catholic Health System in Buffalo and St. Peter’s Health Partners in Albany).
