2024 marks the 35th year of the Kaufman Hall Healthcare Leadership Conference and I would personally like to invite you to attend. The Conference, as usual, will be held in Chicago at the Four Seasons Hotel on October 24th and 25th.

The theme for this year’s Conference is “Listen. Learn. Lead.” and we have been working extra hard over the past months to assemble one of our best Conferences ever. Our lineup of speakers will offer a unique opportunity for listening and learning at the highest level.

On Thursday, our Conference will feature speakers Amy Walter, Dr. Abraham Verghese, and Arthur Brooks:

  • Amy Walter, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Cook Political Report, is one of the smartest and most insightful political commentators around. With the 2024 elections shaping up to be unlike anything we have seen, Amy Walter will help us to make sense of the potential outcomes of the November 5 elections and the implications of those outcomes for our politically divided society.
  • Abraham Verghese is best-selling novelist (including his most recent novel, The Covenant of Water), National Humanities Medal recipient, and professor at Stanford University’s School of Medicine. His interests include reconciling technological change with the fundamental human relationship between caregiver and patient, and he will speak on “The Caring in Healthcare: Challenges and Opportunities in a Technological Era.”
  • Arthur Brooks is the author of twelve books (including the #1 New York Times bestseller, From Strength to Strength), a columnist at The Atlantic magazine, the William Henry Bloomberg Professor of the Practice of Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, and Professor of Management Practice at the Harvard Business School. At our conference, he will bring his wisdom to a session on “Leadership and Happiness.”

On Friday morning, October 25th, our keynote will feature Dawn Staley, head coach of the women’s basketball program for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Coach Staley led her team to another NCAA National Championship earlier this year, and one of her many leadership talents is her skill in recruiting and developing one of the deepest benches of talent in college basketball. Our conversation with her is sure to be “must-see TV.”

Our Conference will close with two of the best minds in healthcare leadership today: Laura Kaiser, President and CEO of SSM Health, and Tina Freese Decker, President and CEO of Corewell Health. All of you have been facing the multitude of issues involved in running complex healthcare delivery organizations today. We look forward to our discussion with Laura and Tina to learn how they are bringing new thinking to solve the challenges of the new healthcare environment.

As always, the Conference will feature:

  • The Therese L. Wareham Rating Agency Panel, with Eva Bogaty from Moody’s, Suzie Desai from S&P Global, and Kevin Holloran from Fitch.
  • Our Women’s Leadership Event, held on the evening of Wednesday, October 23rd, with a special presentation by Dr. Valerie Young on understanding and addressing impostor syndrome in the workplace.
  • Our Treasury & Capital Markets practice’s Buy-Side Investors Breakfast Panel on Thursday morning.

Kaufman Hall has always tried to make our Healthcare Leadership Conference a notable and unique event, offering topics and speakers that you won’t find at any other conference or educational opportunity. Again, let me take this opportunity to invite everyone receiving this blog to join us in Chicago in October. We very much look forward to having you as our guests. Thank you.
